For those of you that don't know, I host a countdown over at the Absolute TRL Forums in the Your Top Ten Forum. My countdown thread can be found here. The countdown is something I started way back on October 26, 2001. This has absolutely nothing to do with Unreal Tournament. It's just a personal thing.

Countdown rules

  1. Only thirteen songs can make my countdown on any particular day.
  2. A day spent in the top ten is will be counted as a day on the countdown.
  3. Songs are allowed to spend up to thirty-five days on the countdown. On day thirty-five, the song retires.
  4. Only the songs listed on my current playlist are eligible for making the countdown.
  5. When a song gets premiered, it is gets added to the current playlist.
  6. A song does not need a video to get premiered but a video is definately a plus.
  7. A song can have one of four statuses: Retired, Current, Obsolete, or Planned.
    Retired
The song has reached day 35 and is no longer eligible to make my countdown. It gets a spot in the Retired videos list.
    Current
The song is currently eligible to make my countdown.
    Obsolete
The song has been removed from my playlist and is no longer eligible to make my countdown.
    Planned
The song is not yet eligible to make my countdown but will be once it is premiered.

Retirement

With few exceptions, every song that reaches day 35 gets retired and added to the retired videos list. The retired videos list is divided into waves (periods of twenty-seven days) starting at the first period with retirements.

Currently, there are 171 retired videos since my countdown started on 10-26-01.

Dynasties

A dynasty is a series of songs where each successive video fills in the spot occupied by the last retired video. Each dynasty starts with one video and it keeps on going. Currently, I recognize ten dynasties, seven of which contain current videos. There are three more recent dynasties that I decided recognize.

Here are the dyansties that I currently recognize:

Alternative Techno Dynasty

This dynasty was started off by a comeback song from the Prodigy back on July 9, 2002.

  1. The Prodigy "Baby's Got a Temper"
  2. Paul Oakenfold f. Shifty Shellshock "Starry Eyed Surprise"
  3. Moby "Extreme Ways"
  4. Ravers on Dope "Get High"
  5. Ian Van Dahl "Reason"
  6. Cirrus "Boomerang"
  7. DJ Sammy "The Boys of Summer"
  8. Fischerspooner "Emerge"
  9. Paul Van Dyk "Nothing But You"
  10. Fischerspooner "Sweetness" (No relation to Jimmy Eat World "Sweetness" except for the song title.)
  11. Paul Van Dyk f. Vega 4 "Time of Our Lives"
  12. The Chemical Brothers "Get Yourself High" (Current Song.)
Modern Rock/Rap Dynasty

  3. Sum 41 "Motivation"
  4. System of a Down "Toxicity"
  5. Unwritten Law "Seein' Red"
  6. Eminem "Without Me"
  7. Jimmy Eat World "Sweetness"
  8. Eminem "Cleaning out My Closet" (Obsolete song.)

  2. DJ Sammy f. Yanou and Do "Heaven"
  3. Dirty Vegas "Days Go By"
  4. Ian Van Dahl "Will I?"
  5. IIO "Rapture" (What is the correct way to spell their name?)

  11. The Chemical Brothers f. the Flaming Lips "The Golden Path"

  1. Korn "Here to Stay"
  2. Deadsy "The Key to Gramercy Park"
  3. New Found Glory "My Friends Over You"
Female-Dominated Dynasty

The first two artists in this dynasty are male, the rest are female. It can also be called the "Answer the Phone" dynasty. In addition, this dynasty is as old as the countdown itself because the first song appeared on day one of my countdown.

  12. Blink 182 "Feeling This"
  13. The Crystal Method "Born Too Slow" (Current Song.)
"First Date" Dynasty

This dynasty gets its name from the song by Blink 182 that started it. It mainly consists of rock songs with a few pop and techno songs in there.

  1. Blink 182 "First Date"
  2. Linkin Park "Papercut"

Osbourne Dynasty

This short-lasting dynasty ended when I decided I did not want to go through the trouble of keeping the last song on my countdown for 35 days.

  1. Ozzy Osbourne "Dreamer"
  2. Andrew W.K. "Party Hard"
  3. Andrew W.K. "She Is Beautiful"
  4. Weezer "Keep Fishin'" (Obsolete song.)
No Doubt Dynasty

This dyansty is named after one of the two bands that started it. There are two times where I could go either way.

  1. No Doubt "Hey Baby"
Blink 182 "Stay Together for the Kids"
  2. Hoobastank "Crawling in the Dark"
  3. Melanie C "I Turn to You"

  15. 311 "Creatures (For a While)"
  16. Outkast "Hey Ya" and "The Way You Move"
  17. Truimph the Insult Comic Dog "I Keed" (Current song.)
Good Charlotte Dynasty

This is one of two new dynasties I recognized on May 20, 2003. It gets its name from the band whose first video started the dynasty.

  1. Good Charlotte "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"
  2. Bowling for Soup "Girl all the Bad Guys Want"
  3. Good Charlotte "The Anthem"
  4. System of a Down "Boom!"
  5. Girls Aloud "No Good Advice"
  6. Lillix "What I Like About You"
  7. Lillix "Tomorrow"
  8. Good Charlotte "Hold On" (Current song.)
"Immortal" Dynasty

The other new dyansty gets its name from the title of the first video in the dynasty. This dyansty is immortal in name only and can become obsolete like any other dynasty. It became obsolete because I wasn't fond of the song by Evanescence.

  1. Adema "Immortal"
  2. Sum 41 "The Hell Song"
  3. Marilyn Manson "mOBSCENE"
  4. Evanescence "Going Under" (Obsolete song.)
Aaliyah's Dynasty

This dyansty gets it's name from the late R&B artist Aaliyah. The first song in this dynasty is the only song by her to retire on my countdown. There were three other songs by Aaliyah that were on my voting list, including one that was on the voting list for the first day of my countdown.

  1. Aaliyah "Miss You"
  2. Lillix "It's About Time"
  3. Michelle Branch "Are You Happy Now?"
  4. Korn "Did My Time"
  5. Fountains of Wayne "Stacy's Mom"
  6. Missy Elliott "Pass That Dutch"
  7. Katy Rose "Overdrive" (Current song.)
"I'm With You" Dynasty

This dynasty was started by Avril Lavigne's song "I'm With You." It contains mostly pop and pop-rock songs.

  1. Avril Lavigne "I'm With You"
  2. Daniel Bedingfield "James Dean"
  3. New Found Glory "Understatement"

  5. Skye Sweetnam "Billy S"
  6. Mandy Moore "Have a Little Faith in Me"
  7. Ladytron "Blue Jeans"
  8. Blink 182 "I Miss You" (Current song.)
Praise Chorus Dyansty

This dynasty gets it's name from the song "A Praise Chorus" by Jimmy Eat World, the founder of this dynasty. The day after the retirement of "Why Not" by Hilary Duff, I let another forum member take over my countdown and premiere any two songs he wanted. I liked one of them so much that I decided to let it run concurrently to the song by Kiley Dean that was originally chosen to replace "Why Not." If the line of songs descending from "I'm Not the Girl" goes into the fourth generation, I may consider making a new dynasty.

  1. Jimmy Eat World "A Praise Chorus"
  2. Hilary Duff "Why Not?"
  3. Kiley Dean "Make Me a Song"
Rachel Farris "I'm Not the Girl"
  4. Hilary Duff "So Yesterday"
Sarai "Ladies" (Part of the Rachel Farris branch.)
  5. Liz Phair "Why Can't I" (Current song of the Kiley Dean Branch.)
Rose Falcon "Up, Up, Up" (Part of the Rachel Farris branch.)
  6. Evanescence "My Immortal"
P.O.D. "Will You" (Current song of Rachel Farris Branch.)

Tarquin: Ike, this page seems to be off-topic. If this page is about Unreal in some way, please explain.

ZxAnPhOrIaN: Isn't the personal pages for personal stuff, not pertaining to the wiki?

Ike Bart: This is my personal page. It has nothing to do with Unreal and neither does my Ike Bart/MOD Music page. I don't feel like registering for a page on Geocities or any other free website at this time. Besides, I don't know HTML that well. It would be easier for me to keep this here.

Piglet: It might be wise then to put a larger explanation at the top of the page in that case. Or your going to get a lot of confused visitors (like me for example)

ZxAnPhOrIaN: O well...

Ike Bart: So far, there hasn't been any songs from Front 242 or VNV Nation to make my countdown. One reason is that I don't know of any videos for either band's most recent songs. In the case of Front 242, I don't even know which of the songs off their latest album is the current single. Such is the state of EBM and industrial electronic music in the USA. As for country music, I don't listen to enough of it to become hooked on any recent country songs.
